Japan Emerges as Key Trading Partner for Cambodia

Phnom Penh, 06 May, 2024: Cambodia has cemented its ties with Japan, recognizing it as a pivotal trading ally crucial for national socio-economic advancement, and is actively courting increased Japanese investment.

These sentiments were expressed by LIM Lork Piseth, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce, during his recent presence at the Opening Ceremony of the 8th Cambodia Festival 2024, held at Yoyogi Park, Tokyo. Organized by the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Japan in collaboration with the Cambodia Festival Committee, Khmer Community, Cambodian and Japanese students, the event served as a platform to strengthen bilateral relations.

LIM Lork Piseth seized the opportunity to highlight Cambodia's economic progress, investment potential, and burgeoning tourism sector, urging Japanese investors and companies to explore opportunities in the country. He emphasized the influx of globally renowned Japanese corporations such as Minebea, Aeon Mall, and Toyota Tsusho Manufacturing Corporation (Cambodia) as indicators of Cambodia's attractiveness for foreign investment.

Joining LIM Lork Piseth at the Opening Ceremony were prominent figures including TUY Ry, Ambassador of Cambodia to Japan, IMAMURA Masahiro, Member of the House of Representatives and Chairperson of Japan-Cambodia Friendship Parliamentary Association, and HOSAKA Yasushi, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

The annual Cambodia Festival showcased the vibrant culture, arts, tourism, and products of Cambodia to the Japanese community and international guests. This year's event featured over 90 booths, including representatives from seven Cambodian companies, exhibiting a diverse array of Cambodian cuisine and products.

Attendees were treated to traditional Khmer dance performances by various art groups from Cambodia's Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, captivating dance routines by Cambodian youths residing in Japan, contemporary music, and showcases of traditional Khmer costumes. Additionally, Kun Khmer martial arts performances added to the festival's allure.

The enthusiasm surrounding the Cambodia Festival drew more than 30,000 visitors on its opening day, underscoring the growing interest in Cambodian culture and products.
